Unlock Bold Confidence: A Proven Path for Screen Actors

Unlock Bold Confidence: A Proven Path for Screen Actors

Confidence Is the Game-Changer for Screen Actors

Ask any Australian actor transitioning from early training to the screen: confidence makes or breaks your performance. It isn’t just what you say—it’s how present, alert and committed you are before you even speak.

As the winners and losers actor and creator of Rostered On, which was streamed on Netflix, I’ve seen first-hand how even talented performers sabotage auditions and screen takes through subtle nerves. I’ve also seen those same actors completely turn it around using clear, trainable techniques grounded in science—not just “fake it till you make it.”

What Makes Confidence Stick for Actors?

Confidence for screen actors is not about arrogance. It’s precision under pressure. Self-trust. Presence. The kind you can bring to the set, the audition room, or your first line of episode one and hold steady through takes, reversals, and re-writes.

And the good news? Strong, magnetic confidence isn’t random. It’s learned. Taught. Rehearsed.

That’s what we do at Moore Acting Instinct—the Geelong acting school I’ve built and refined since 2010 for actors looking to rewire performance nerves into tools of presence and power.

Why Geelong? Why Now?

There are heavyweight institutions all over the world—but access to results-focused, screen-validated acting training in regional Australia can still be limited. As a Geelong actor myself, after training at the Stella Adler Academy in LA, I wanted to bring something back. Something local and world-class.

Now, our community thrives—with acting classes in Geelong that combine neuroscience, creative resilience and on-camera preparation from day one. Whether you’re fresh out of drama school or shifting careers via emergency teaching like I once did, performance is now a skill you can shape—right here.

From Netflix to Nerves: Why Paul Moore’s Method Works

I’ve coached students who’ve landed feature films, auditioned internationally, or just brought far more presence into leadership at work. As Paul Moore the acting coach, I guide actors through techniques rooted in performance psychology—just like those I used on Winners & Losers as Wes Fitzpatrick, and in the global hit Rostered On.

We’re beyond “act like someone else.” Today’s screen actor must be authentic to the bone, fast to adjust under direction, and grounded under pressure.

Studio Story: Breaking the Pattern

Take one of my students—we’ll call her “M.”

M started classes with edge-of-panic nerves. Her voice would shake, and every muscle would tense during scene work. But over six sessions at Moore Acting Instinct, we built her confidence from the inside out. Using breath cues, reframing exercises, and screen playback, we unlocked her stillness for the first time. Her callback on a regional commercial—booked. That experience shifted her entire mindset. Confidence grew. And she never looked back.

Try This Today (5 Minutes)

A simple tool I teach at Moore Acting Instinct—used by working professionals and new actors alike—is called “Stage Switch.”

  1. Find a quiet space and set a 5-minute timer.
  2. Stand with feet shoulder-width. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply.
  3. Picture a “stage switch” on your chest. Off = anxious. On = aware and ready.
  4. With intention, flip that switch “on” as you breathe in.
  5. Hold confident posture, feel grounded. Say your name out loud as if walking into a live audition.
  6. Repeat for three rounds, visualising your most prepared, calm and energised screen self.

That’s it. Five minutes daily are all it takes to start rewiring performance-mode response at a neuro-muscular level. It’s not woo-woo—it’s proven technique.

Act Braver, Starting Now

At Moore Acting Instinct, our motto is simple: train smarter, act braver. Whether you knew me from Winners & Losers, saw my work on Rostered On, or you’re stumbling onto this after a long day of stashamo high episodes, here’s the truth—confidence on screen isn’t only for the chosen few. It’s for anyone who’s done the work.

And that starts with smart tools, tight technique, and resilient repetition. It’s already inside you. You just need a way to access it. Join our acting classes in Geelong or online intensives and unlock the version of you ready to step up.

If you’re a screen actor ready to break through, start with the exercise above. Then, visit Moore Acting Instinct. Let’s train smart—and act bolder than ever before.
